Mining ship (BSG 2003)
Name: Mining ship
Type: Ore extractor
Registration: Tauron registry
Specifications: L: 2,600' W: 650' H: 220'

Description

Built to extract raw minerals and metals (including the rare Tyllium ore vital to fuel production for spaceflight). Mining ships are mobile drilling platforms and ore-extraction facilities, capable of tearing much-needed resources from asteroid fields and small planetoids, then moving on. Cramped, filthy, hot, and industrial, the interior of a mining ship is no place for passengers or refugees. Only their crews tend to remain aboard for any substantial length of time. These large vessels work in concert with refinery ships, as their refining capabilities are extremely limited.

  • Operations: Saucers can separate to work different resource deposits, or link with others to exploit richer fields more rapidly.
  • Range: Very slow, capable of mid-range hyperlight jumps.
