Milla Jovovich (b. December 17, 1975) is an actress and former model born in Kiev, Ukraine to Bogdan Jovović, a Serbian medical doctor, and Galina Loginova, a Russian actress. In 1981 her family moved to London and shortly after, Sacramento, California.

Modeling

Jovovich began modeling as an adolescent. She was discovered by photographer Richard Avedon and in 1987 and at age 11 she appeared on the cover of the Italian magazine Lei. She went on to become one of the world's most recognized supermodels. She is also a spokes model for the cosmetics company, L'Oreal.

Acting

Jovovich began acting in her youth under the guidance of her mother. She appeared in Two Moon Junction and The Night Train to Kathmandu in 1988 and in 1989 she made guest appearances in Married with Children and Parker Lewis Can't Lose which starred Corin Nemec. In 1991, she starred in Return to the Blue Lagoon. Her performance garnered nominations for Best Young Actress Starring in a Motion Picture' at the 1991 Young Artist Awards, and 'Worst New Star' at the 1991 Golden Raspberry Awards.

In 1998, Jovovich starred in the scifi-action feature The Fifth Element with Bruce Willis. The film was her first scifi role and the first in a slew of genre films. She also appeared in He Got Game, and took on the title role in The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc. She returned to the genre in Resident Evil and reprised her role in Resident Evil: Apocalypse and the sequel Resident Evil: Extinction. She also starred in Ultraviolet as Violet Song jat Shariff and appeared in the drama .45.

Singing

Jovovich began writing and singing in her teens. She wrote the lyrics for her first album, The Divine Comedy at fifteen. The album was released in 1994 when Jovovich was eighteen. The musical style was unique and foky.

She also led a band called Plastic Has Memory. The band never released an album but played several shows in LA and New York City. They were featured on Hollywood Goes Wild. The band is no longer together.

Other musical work include a vocal on the album Legion of Boom for The Crystal Method. She also performed Rocket for the soundtrack of the film Underworld. Several demos of her work are available on her website.

Fashion Design

Jovovich, and fellow model Carmen Hawk launched a fashion line called Jovovich-Hawk. The line is sold in Fred Segal and Harvey Nichols as well as over fifty stores around the world. The line was a great success and the pair has opened a showroom in New York City's Greenwich Village.

Personal Life

Jovovich married actor Shawn Andrews in 1992 after meeting on the set of Dazed and Confused. The marriage was annulled after only a month. In 1997 she married The Fifth Element director Luc Besson but they divorced in 1999. Since the ending of her marriage she's been linked to actor Stephen Dorf, Red Hot Chilli Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, soccer star Hidetoshi Nakata, and director Paul W. S. Anderson.

Jovovich speaks Russian, English and French fluently. She is a naturalized U.S. Citizen.
