Michelle Christine Trachtenberg (b. October 11, 1985) is an American actress born in New York City, New York to Michael Trachtenberg, a fiberoptics engineer and mother Lana a former actress and puppeteer from Russia. She is best known for her role as Dawn Summers in the Joss Whedon cult hit, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Trachtenberg is of Jewish descent and is fluent in Russian. She has one older sister, Irene.
Trachtenberg grew up in Brooklyn and attended Bay Academy Junior High School. She made her television debut as a toddler appearing in commercials for Wisk detergent. Early television appearances include All My Children, a recurring role on The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Harriet the Spy, Space Cases and Meego. Trachtenberg joined the cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 2000 as Buffy's younger sister. She remained on the series until its end in 2003. She also had a recurring role on the HBO series Six Feet Under.
Feature film appearances include Inspector Gadget, A Father's Choice, Eurotrip, Mysterious Skin and a starring role in Disney's Ice Princess with Joan Cusack and Kim Catrall. Like Buffy co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar, Trachtenberg has lent her voice to the cartoon series Robot Chicken. Recent appearances include Beautiful Ohio, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Black Christmas, Kickin it Old School, a voice role in the upcoming film, Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight.
