November 23,1917) Malaysian born British stage and screen actor, equally at home in productions of Ibsen or playing sadistic madmen. A dependable presence in such films as Dracula (aka The Horror of Dracula, 1958), Konga (1960), What a Carve Up! (1961), The Phantom of the Opera (1962), Black Zoo (1963), Dr. Terror's House of Horrors (1965), Berserk! (1967), Trog (1970), Horror Hospital (1973), The Boys from Brazil (1978) and The Serpent and the Rainbow (1987), probably his finest moment was as the arrogant killer in Arthur Crabtree’s Horrors of the Black Museum (1959). He is now better known to a whole new generation as Alfred Pennyworth the faithful butler in Warner Bros.’ four Batman movies (1989-1997) and for his more recent contributions to Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow (1999) and The Corpse Bride (2005).
