Mexico

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

(Redirected from Mexican)

The United Mexican States (Estados Unidos Mexicanos), or simply Mexico, is a North American Country bordered on the north by the United States and the south by Guatemala and Belize. Once under the rule of Spain, Mexico is the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world.

Mexico may or may not be home to Él Chupacabra but it has definitely been home to actors Salma Hayek, Abel Salazar and Anthony Quinn. Many other well known actors are of Mexican heritage including Edward James Olmos, Jessica Alba, and Charisma Carpenter.

Movies

Mexico has a unique movie industry, rich in ideas (if not always in budget). One particular type of Mexican exploitation (or "Mexploitation") movie with a following in the US is the Mexican Wrestler film, in which real-life wrestlers (like Santo or the Blue Demon) fight supernatural foes, like Dracula and Aztec mummies.

Paranormal

There are many UFO (called OVNI in Spanish) researchers in Mexico, and it is a popular topic on tv. Flying humanoids are reported, and have been filmed. Traditional beliefs, including witches (brujas) and werewolves (in English, "skinwalkers", although these are usually voluntary transformations), and ghosts and hauntings (traditionally, La Llorona is the ghost of a woman crying for her dead children: residents of Mexico still report encountering her) are part of the cultural landscape.
