The Memory Alpha Wiki is a free database written and edited by fans of the Star Trek franchise. The site is devoted to becoming the largest and most reliable source of information on the Trek Universe. The Wiki was started in November 2003 by Harry Doddema and Dan Carlson, inspired by the best known open-source free encyclopedia, Wikipedia. The site was named after Memory Alpha, the largest library in the United Federation of Planets.
