Mel Brooks (Melvin Kaminsky) (b. June 28, 1926 Brooklyn, New York City, New York) Unsubtle American comedy writer/producer/director/actor who began his career in television. Following the success of The Producers (1968), his career has been hit-or-miss, although Young Frankenstein (1974) remains a high point. His production company is responsible for much more interesting films, such as The Elephant Man (1980). Among his most popular films are The History of the World: Part 1, Life Stinks, Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and Dracula: Dead and Loving It.
