Medium (2005–) is an NBC original TV series created by Glenn Gordon Caron, starring Patricia Arquette as medium Allison Dubois. The show debuted on January 3, 2005, and is based on the life of self proclaimed real-life psychic Allison Dubois, who is a consultant on the show.

Patricia Arquette won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Allison Dubois.

Suburban mother of three, Allison Dubois is a law student living in Arizona with her husband, Joe (Jake Weber), an aerospace engineer. Allison begins to believe she can talk to the dead and see the future. She has eerily accurate intuitions, and seems, on occasion, to be able to read people's minds. At first, her husband, a believer in hard science, dismisses it as stress but it soon becomes evident that what Allison is seeing are real events that have happened or will happen.

Allison, believing she has a responsibility to make use of her gifts, convinces her boss, District Attorney Devalos (Miguel Sandoval), that she can help him solve crimes. After seeing Allison's success with difficult cases, Devalos hires her as an unspecified consultant.

Allison'sthree daughters, Ariel (Sofia Vassilieva), Bridgette (Maria Lark) and Maria (Miranda Carabello) appear to have inherited some of their mother's abilities. They each have their own dreams and intuitions. Bridgette, while not bothered by what she's seen, does not yet fully understand her abilities and has on one occasion had difficulty telling the difference between the living and the dead. Allison's younger brother Michael (Ryan Hurst) also shares Allison's abilities, although he has tried to drown out his intuitions via alcohol.
