Maya Herrera is a fictional character on the series Heroes portrayed by Dania Ramirez. Maya and her twin brother, Alejandro Herrera are fugitives, wanted for murder throughout central America.

Maya and Alejandro first appeared in "Four Months Later", on the run from the police for murder. The two have not willfully committed murder but Maya's ability causes a dark fluid to ooze from her eyes when she is distressed. The fluid is deadly to all but Alejandro is the only one able to calm her and cause the fluid to retreat and her eyes and skin to return to normal. When he does so, his own eyes turn dark.
Maya has lost control several times, in all cases when she was separated for her brother. In every case, someone has died as a result. Maya used her deadly talents to rescue her brother from Mexican police custody and along with a fellow prisoner, Derek, the two made their way to the US border, where they hope to go on to New York to find the author of the book Activating Evolution, Chandra Suresh. On the way to the border they encountered Gabriel Gray, aka Sylar who informed them he knew Suresh personally. Sylar killed Derek and became intrigued by the twin's abilities.
Maya and Gabriel grew closer and his presence began to negatively affect her relationship with her brother. Alejandro opposed Maya using her abilities to harm others and was determined to help control her. Sylar however, managed to convince her to take control of her abilities for herself and Maya became convinced she no longer needed her brother's assistance. Sylar convinced her that he had chosen to leave and return home when, in fact, he had killed Alejandro. Maya later discovered this when they both arrived in New York and Gabriel revealed his true nature as a the serial killer, Sylar.
