Mary Norton

Mary Norton, née Mary Pearson , (December 10, 1903August 29, 1992) was a British children's author best known for her Borrowers series. Norton also wrote the Bedknob and Broomsticks novels. She was raised at Manor House in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, where she later set her Borrowers series, educated in London and studied acting at London's Old Vic Shakespeare company for two years. She gave up theatre after marrying and moved to Portugal where she took up writing. She won the Carnegie Medal for The Borrowers, published in 1952
