Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (November 17, 1958 Lombard, Illinois - ) is an American actress best known among genre fans for her role in The Abyss as the determined Lindsey Brigman. Born to Italian immigrants, Mastrantonio grew up in Oak Park, Illinois. She was inspired to take up acting after appearing in Guys and Dolls while studying at the University of Illinois. She left Illinois for New York and began her career on stage, appearing in West Side Story.
She made her film debut in 1983, landing her first credited role alongside Al Pacino in Scarface. She followed up with appearances in The Color of Money, and in 1989, James Cameron's, The Abyss in which she appeared alongside Ed Harris as the soon to be ex wife of his character, Lindsey Brigman. Her genre appearances since her debut performance have been few however, in 1995, she starred with Patrick Swayze in Three Wishes. Other notable appearances include The Perfect Storm, Tabloid and the 2008 TV movie, The Russel Girl with Amber Tamblyn.
