Mark Chadbourn (b. 1960) comes from a long line of Midlands coal miners, but after gaining an honors degree in History, he broke with family tradition to become a national newspaper and magazine journalist. Other jobs include running the independent record label, Faith, managing bands, a fitter’s mate at a power station, and a production line worker. After winning Fear Magazine’s Best New Author award for his first short story in 1991, he landed a publishing deal which saw his debut horror novel, Underground, launch a year later. Since then, he has worked firmly in the field of contemporary fantasy with a string of novels that include Nocturne, The Eternal, Testimony, Scissorman, World’s End, Darkest Hour, Always Forever, The Devil in Green, The Queen of Sinister and The Hounds of Avalon. He won the British Fantasy Award in 2003 for his novella "The Fairy Feller’s Master-Stroke" from PS Publishing.
