Manny Coto is an American television writer, director, and producer known for his work in the SciFi genre. He grew up in Orlando Florida and was a devoted fan of Star Trek all his life. After graduating from the American Film Institute, he worked on his first TV series, Tales from the Crypt writing and directing the episode "Mournin Mess". He has also written for The Outer Limits and Dead at 21. He wrote and directed the films Dr. Giggles, Hostile Intent, and Star Kid.
In 2002, he created the Showtime series Odyssey 5 about a group of astronauts sent back in time to prevent Earth's destruction. The series was cancelled after only one season. In 2003, he joined the writing team for the Enterprise the latest Star Trek series. He became an executive producer in the show's fourth and final season. He is credited by fans with improving the show's direction and preserving continuity.
After Enterprise, Coto became an executive producer and writer on the hit series 24. His directing work includes the family films Zenon: The Zequel , The Other Me, and the horror film Playroom.
