The Super Dimension Fortress Macross (often shortened to just "Macross") is an anime TV series, originally broadcast in Japan from 1982-1983, running for 36 episodes.

Story

Macross focuses on the first interstellar war fought by humans, against the alien Zentradis. In 1999, humans recover a massive alien vessel which crash lands on Earth, and begin rebuilding it, but 10 years later the Zentradis arrive and they are forced to flee using the ship's experimental foldspace drive, which flings them to the other side of the solar system before giving out; using conventional drive, it takes a year to get back to Earth. The primary characters are Hikaru Ichijyo, and the two women he is involved in a love triangle with, Lynn Minmay and Misa Hayase.

The rebuilt alien vessel, dubbed the SD-1 Macross is a giant ship capable of transforming into an equally massive humanoid fighting robot. There is also a refugee city inside of its hull that it picked up when it first had to flee Earth.

Macross was later edited into the Robotech series.
