MacGyver, refers to the main character of the 1985 TV Series of the same name played by Richard Dean Anderson. MacGyver had the unique ability to create useful tools out of everyday items for the purpose of solving a problem. In turn, the term MacGyver refers both to the act of solving a problem creatively as well as the person who does so.
