Lucian Alliance

In the series Stargate SG-1, the Lucian Alliance is a powerful criminal syndicate within the Milky Way that came to power following the fall of the Goa'uld. The syndicate includes former Jaffa Warriors as well as human smugglers and mercenaries and the occasional alien seeking to profit from the power vacuum left behind by the defeat of the System Lords and the ultimate decline of religious and political systems on planets throughout the galaxy.

Spoiler Warning: Plot details and/or information about the ending follow. If you wish to enjoy the work first, stop reading here and return at another time.

The Alliance was first encountered in "Prometheus Unbound" when con artist Vala Mal Doran stole the Earth ship Prometheus with the intention of trading it to the alliance for weapons-grade naquadah. Daniel Jackson successfully thwarted her attempts but their run in with alliance members Tenat and Jup would not be their last.

SG-1 encountered them once more when they made an unsuccessful attempt to go undercover as traders trying to uncover the source of a highly addictive drug known as Kassa which the alliance uses to control populations. The alliance captured them when they came to believe SG-1 was responsible for the disappearance of the planet's stargate. The Alliance's conflict with the Tau'ri came to a violent climax between the new Earth ship Odyssey and the Alliance's mother ships. The Alliance became increasingly powerful and threatening to both Jaffa and humans.

In "Camelot", Teal'c sought the Alliance's aid in the battle against The Ori. The battle was a devastating defeat for the Milky Way forces and Netan, the alliance leader, accused Teal'c of intentionally leading them into a battle they could not win to weaken the alliance. Teal'c was tortured before eventually being rescued by Odyssey.

The Alliance began to suffer from internal political maneuvering as seen in "Company of Thieves". Fearing that his second in command was planning an overthrow, Netan sent Anateo to capture the Earth ship Odyssey hoping he'd fail and be disgraced or be killed in the attempt. Anateo succeeded, however, and threatened the lives of Col. Samantha Carter and Col. Paul Emerson who was ultimately killed by Anateo.

Using the Reole chemical, Mitchell went undercover to infiltrate the Alliance and free the captured ship and her crew. With Teal'c's help he managed to convince Netan that he was one of his own and successfully freed Odyssey and her crew. But the ultimate consequence is that the Lucian Alliance viewed Earth as a particular enemy.

SG-1 continued to work against the alliance, destroying several Kassa transport vessels. Seeking to put an end to their interference, Netan placed a bounty on their heads. Several independent agents attempted, unsuccessfully to capture the members of the team. SG-1 managed to turn the bounty around on Netan. With his many failures the alliance set a bounty for his capture and likely execution. ("Bounty")
