Luc Besson (b. March 19, 1959) is a French writer, director and producer best known for his work on The Fifth Element. Besson was born in Paris and spent his youth traveling the world with his parents, both scuba diving instructors. The Fifth Element and The Big Blue were both ideas sparked in childhood.
Besson planned to focus on Marine biology but a diving accident at seventeen prevented him from being able to dive. He returned to Paris where he became drawn to film. He spent a few years in the United States before moving back home to start up his own production company, Les Films de Dauphins. Noteworthy films include Le Derniere Combat, Point of No Return, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, The Transporter, Angel-A and Arthur and the Minimoys.
Besson has been married three times to Anne Parilaud with whom he has a daughter, Juliette, Milla Jovovich, and Vigine Silla with whom he has three daughters, Talia, Satine, and Mao. He also has a daughter, Shana, with former girlfriend, Maïwenn Le Besco.
