The family owned two indigo plantations and his mother, sister, and brother Paul lived one one of the plantations just outside New Orleans. Feeling guilty about the recent death of his brother, Louis became near suicidal but unable to kill himself began to waste his life away drinking in taverns and engaging in duels. He was transformed into a vampire by Lestat de Lioncourt.
The character of Louis was portrayed by Brad Pitt in the film Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles.
