Spoiler Warning: Plot details and/or information about the ending follow. If you wish to enjoy the work first, stop reading here and return at another time.

Ferretti is US Air Force Officer and a member of the original team that went through the stargate in the movie. When the team arrived on Abydos and Dr. Daniel Jackson revealed he did not have a way home, he became angry and scattered Jackson's books over the desert. While attempting to retrieve the books, Dr. Jackson pursued a native beast, a Mastadge, and the team discovered the Abydonian civilization as a result. Ferretti helped free the Abydonians from the alien Ra and when he returned to Earth conspired with Charles Kawalsky and Jack O'Neill to hide the fact that they had not destroyed Abydos as per their mission objective.

A year later, when aliens attacked Stargate Command through the stargate, Ferretti, O'Neill, and Kawalsky were called back to duty and were forced to admit they had not destroyed Abydos. They were sent through the gate to Abydos once more to investigate the source of the attacks. While there, Ferretti and the Abydonians came under attack by aliens who came through the stargate and he was injured. Despite his injuries, Ferretti was able to read and remember the address the aliens went to enabling SG1 and SG-2 to visit the planet, Chulak, and uncover the alien threat to Earth.

After Kawalsky's death, Ferretti was given charge of SG-2. When SG-1 defied orders and went through the gate in the season 1 finale "Within the Serpent's Grasp", Ferretti was ordered to retrieve them for court martial. They were unable to achieve a lock on the address and the mission was canceled.
