Lestat de Lioncourt is a fictional character created by Anne Rice in her novel Interview with the Vampire. Lestat was born in 1760 and is the seventh son of the Marquis d'Auvergne and his wife Gabrielle de Lioncourt. Though aristocrats, the family lived in genteel poverty. Following a life-altering near-death encounter with a pack of wolves, he left with his best friend Nicholas for Paris to become an actor. While in Paris he became the focus of attention for the vampire Magnus who abducted him and transformed him into a vampire before killing himself.
The character was portrayed on screen in the film Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles by Tom Cruise. The role was taken on by Stuart Townsend in the 2002 film adaptation of The Queen of the Damned.
