<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Les Edwards (b. 1949) studied at London’s Hornsey College of Art from 1968-72. On leaving he began to work as a freelance illustrator, and swiftly established himself as a stalwart of the U.K. illustration scene. In a career spanning thirty years, he has painted a great number of covers, for such series as The Mayflower Books of Black Magic, The Fontana Books of Horror, The Star Books of Horror, The Reign of Terror series for Corgi Books, The Year’s Best Horror Stories for DAW Books and The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror for Carroll & Graf. He has also created covers for works by Graham Masterton, Guy N. Smith, Theodore Sturgeon, Les Daniels, August Derleth, R. Chetwynd-Hayes, Brian Lumley, Ramsey Campbell and Stephen King. His cover for the 1988 Ace paperback edition of Wells's The War of the Worlds was reused on the Bantam Classic edition in 2003. He has created two graphic novels based on the works of Clive Barker and painted a number of movie posters, including Barker’s Nightbreed and John Carpenter’s The Thing. Some of his early work is collected in Blood & Iron (1989), and he has recently been producing the covers for Anne McCaffrey’s Pern series, novels by Mary Gentle, and illustrations for some of Terry Pratchett’s stories. Under the pseudonym “Edward Miller” he has begun working in a different style, painting covers for books by China Miéville, Mark Morris, Steve Erikson, Simon Clark and Tim Lebbon, and the new “Not at Night” series from PS Publishing. In 1995, Edwards was Artist Guest of Honour at the World Science Fiction Convention, where he painted another version of Wells's Martian invaders for the souvenir book cover. He has won Best Artist in the British Fantasy Awards on five occasions, and has been nominated in that category every year since 1994. He has twice been nominated for the World Fantasy Award for Best Artist, and in 2004 he was nominated for a Chesley Award for his painting The Snow Witch.
