Leonor Varela (b. December 29, 1972, Santiago, Chile) is an actress born to Chilean biologist Francisco Varela and Leonor Palma, a dancer of French-Italian-Algerian descent. Varela and family left military-dominated Chile behind for Costa Rica and later moved to Germany, the United States and France. Varela remained in France after her parents returned to Chile and studied at the Ecole du Passage and the Conservatoire Superieur de Paris. She is fluent in Spanish, French, and English

After a few television appearances, Varela made her feature film debut in 1997, appearing in Bouge!. She made her English-language film debut in a small role The Man in the Iron Mask and played Judith in the religious themed TV movie, Jeremiah.

In 1999, Varela landed the role of Cleopatra in which she appeared with Billy Zane and Timothy Dalton. She followed up with roles in Blade II with Wesley Snipes, and The Tailor of Panama with Pierce Brosnan. She guest starred on the series Stargate Atlantis in the role of Athar. Other notable roles include The Curse of King Tut's Tomb, Chilean film, All Inclusive, Alex Rivera's dystopian sci fi film Sleep Dealer, and Caleuche: The Call of the Sea alongside Santiago Cabrera .
