Lantea

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Lantea is a fictional planet on the series Stargate Atlantis located in the Pegasus Galaxy.

Lantea is home to the city of Atlantis, and takes its name from the city of the Ancients. The city was located on Lantea during first three seasons of the series. The planet was not rennamed by the humans from Earth who took over the city. However, as per the Ancient database, the planet's real name is Lantea.

Lantea is covered with water and has only a single continent of approximately 15 million square miles in area. The Lateans built a station deep beneath the ocean to access geothermal energy, relatively close to the surface.

Life on the planet faces two great natural dangers: destructive storms covering nearly 20% of the planet every 20 to 30 years caused by the warming of the ocean and coronal mass ejections from the Lantean system's star, which occur about every 15,000 years. The planet was ultimately abandoned after the Asurans attacked Atlantis with a satellite beam weapon. The planet no longer has a stargate as the only gate existed inside the city.
