Lane Smith (b. April 29, 1936 in Memphis, Tennessee – June 13, 2005 Northridge, California) is an American actor best known for his portrayal of Perry White in the series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Smith was also a noted stage actor and won a 1984 Drama Desk Award for his role in the Broadway play Glengarry Glen Ross.
Smith suffered from Lou Gherig's disease and finally died from the illness in 2005 leaving behind his wife, Debbie Benedict and their two children and older son from his previous marriage, Robby Smith.
