Although the facts surrounding this creature are sketchy at best, the most renowned story concerns a pair of Italian reporters who supposedly visited Lake in 1964. Upon their arrival they were informed that a group of hunters had recently had an incredible encounter with an unknown animal.

According to the eyewitness accounts, the hunters and their lone dog had been chasing a wounded deer through the forests, which surround Lake Labynkr. As the deer limped through the trees, it left a distinct trail of blood and crushed bramble heading toward the lake. The hunters came into a clearing and watched as the deer plunged into the water, their dog following its prey without hesitation.

Abruptly, both animals disappeared beneath the black surface of the lake. The men stared in shock and growing fear as their dog failed to resurface. Suddenly, the placid water of the Labynkr began to froth, revealing what was later described as being a large, black, dorsal finned monster, which emitted a horrible shriek before returning to the depths of the lake. Some investigators have pointed out that this shriek bears comparing to the similar sounds said to emenate from the notorious Chinese cryptids known as the WUHNAN TOADS

Inspired by this terrifying encounter, a team of Soviet divers - equipped with what was then state-of-the-art scuba and camera gear - mounted an expedition to Labynkr later that same year. The team arrived and was divided into three groups. The first two teams were unsuccessful in their bid to find the creature, but the third team claimed to have sighted three large objects some 900-feet from shore.

Attempts to film the objects failed due to lighting conditions, and it is still not known whether the witnesses actually saw a single creature or three separate animals in the lake. This minor controversy was ignited due to the fact that all three of the objects appeared to submerge, and then reappear, simultaneously.
