Korea refers to the geographic area of the Korean Peninsula. The Peninsula is divided into the independent states, North Korea and South Korea. In common speech however, "Korea" most likely refers to South Korea which is of greater impact on the world as its northern Communist neighbor is mainly a closed country. The Korean peninsula is bordered on the west by China and on the north by Russia.
