The Kingpin of Crime is the arch nemesis of Daredevil, and a recurring nemesis for Spider-Man, both fictional comic book superheroes owned by Marvel Comics. He has faced many Marvel characters both good and evil, notably the Punisher, the Avengers, Captain America, Doctor Strange, and others. He has employed Echo, Bullseye, Elektra, and Typhoid Mary as assassins.
The Kingpin is a master manipulator and political scientist, and ruler of the New York underworld. He is a criminal genius, and a highly skilled planner and organizer, and a completely ruthless adversary, often striking out at family, friends, and reputations as he destroys his foes both physically and psychologically. He opposed his own son, Richard Fisk, when he became a rival gang leader known as the Rose. The Kingpin’s only weakness has been his love for his wife, Vanessa, who disapproved of his violent and immoral career, though has shown herself to be as ruthless as her husband. She herself had her son killed for his betrayal of his father. Now that she is deceased, he is even harder to get a psychological edge on.
He appears to be obese, but the apparent fat is actually solid muscle, like a sumo wrestler. He has peak human strength, and his muscle has saved his life many times, either shielding him form physical blows, or causing otherwise fatal wounds to strike him relatively superficially. His fighting skills and unusual agility enable him to compensate in a battle against a stronger foe, like Spider-Man.
The Kingpin has been defeated more than once by his nemesis, Daredevil. He always disappears for a while, and returns stronger than ever. Having an interest in the orient, he often retreats to the Far East, where he maintains business interests as the former head of Fujikawa Industries, a legitimate trader in spices. It is this business that allows him to describe himself as “a humble spice dealer”.
Currently, he is serving time in prison. His most recent crime was ordering the assassination of Spider-Man and his family, resulting in Peter’s Aunt May being shot and mortally wounded. As his Aunt lies in the hospital and appears to be dying, Spider-Man has sworn revenge, and to make an example of him to prevent future criminal attempts on his family. Stay tuned!
Character Origin
Wilson Fisk grew up an unpopular overweight boy; he was bullied as a child. This experience made Fisk determined to be the best at whatever he did, and made him ruthless in achieving this goal. He committed his first murder when he was twelve. He trained relentlessly in body building, physical combat, and Sumo wrestling. All these skills and his incredible manipulative abilities led him to become leader of a small gang of teen criminals, giving him the nickname, Kingpin.
He soon gained stature and power, becoming head of a criminal empire. He invested his money into an oriental spice trading company, which he used as legitimate cover for his illegal activities. When he murdered his former leader, crime boss Don Rigoletto, he became the undisputed Kingpin of Crime on the East Coast.
