Kenneth Grahame (March 8, 1859 – July 6, 1932) is a Scottish author best known for his classic children's story, The Wind in the Willows. Grahame was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He attended St Edward's School in Oxford and despite his desire to attend Oxford University, was forced to forgo college on account of the cost. He began working for the Bank of England in 1879. He retired in 1908. Grahame survived an attempted shooting and the suicide of his only child Alastair. He died in Pangbourne, Berkshire in 1932 and was buried in Holywell Cemetery, Oxford.
Though best known for the The Wind in the Willows, which was brought to the screen for the first time in 1949 by Disney, Grahame also wrote the story The Reluctant Dragon. That film was also animated by Disney in 1941. Several of Grahame's stories were published as Pagan Papers in 1893.
