Kathryn Janeway (b. May 20 in Bloomington, Indiana) is a fictional character in the Star Trek universe, originating in the series Star Trek: Voyager. Janeway is the captain of the starship USS Voyager. The character, played by Kate Mulgrew, also appeared briefly in the film Star Trek: Nemesis. Captain Janeway and her crew were drawn into the distant Delta Quadrant where she was forced to make a decision that stranded her crew there with the likelihood of never returning home. She was determined that they all make it home and managed to do it in seven years, a far cry from the original prediction of 75 years.
Character History
Kathryn was born to Admiral Edward Janeway and Gretchen Janeway. Her father died in 2358. She has one sister. She was engaged to Mark Johnson in 2371, but when Kathryn and her crew became stranded, he eventually came to accept the likelihood that she had died and married someone else.
Career History
Janeway's first posting in Starfleet was on board the USS Al-Batani where she served as a science officer under the command of captain Owen Paris. Aboard the Al-Batani, she eventually fell in love with Captain Paris, after he saved her from a Clingon marriage. Captain Owen Paris is the father of Lt. Tom Paris of Voyager.
She took command of Voyager in 2371. Their first mission was the rescue of a missing Maquis ship that disappeared in the badlands.
Following her return from the Delta Quadrant she was promoted to vice admiral.

It's usually best to give a very general overview to a story first, then plot details. When including the plot or essential details in your article (which could ruin the pleasure of discovery for some readers), it is important to include the spoiler tag before any give-away material.
