Canada native Kate Vernon (b. 1961) is the daughter of character actor John Vernon (best known for his role as Dean Wormer in Animal House). When Kate was seven years old, her father moved the family to Hollywood, California. Raised in an acting family in Los Angeles, Kate demonstrated an early and easy aptitude for the craft. She landed four roles with her first four auditions and since then has worked continuously.
Vernon's work has included guest-starring turns or recurring roles on such series as Star Trek: Voyager, Nash Bridges, Who's the Boss, L.A. Law, and Hunter. She also has starred in numerous telefilms for Showtime, USA Network, the Hallmark Channel, HBO, and Lifetime. Her feature-film credits include Malcolm X, Pretty in Pink, and The Secret Life of Girls.
On the SCI FI Channel's hit series Battlestar Galactica, Vernon plays Ellen Tigh, the sexually voracious and emotionally manipulative wife of Col. Saul Tigh. As much his enabler as his partner, she constantly goads and pushes him to embrace more ambitious goals. She tells herself that she does it for his own good, but the only person whose advancement she really cares about is her own.
Vernon currently resides in Los Angeles with her daughter and enjoys meeting fans of Battlestar Galactica while she continues to work on new film and television projects.
