K'Tau is a fictional planet on the series Stargate SG-1. The planet is protected by The Asgard under the Asgard Protected Planets Treaty which also prevents them from interfering in the evolution of the people on the planet. The people of K'Tau are of Norse origin and pray to the Norse god Freyr. Freyr is actually an Asgard.
On a routine exploration to K'Tau SG-1 witnessed the shift of the planet's sun to infrared, an event that would ultimately result in the end of all life on the planet. They soon learned that they were responsible for the disaster. By bypassing several of the Stargate's protocol's they had allowed a heavy element to be transferred into the star as the wormhole passed through it.
SG-1 pled with the Asgard high council to help them fix the problem and save the planet but the Asgard refused to violate the treaty and endanger other worlds protected by it. The SGC devised a solution of their own by constructing a rocket they hoped to be sent into the sun but after several months of preparation, it was destroyed by the locals who believed Freyr would help them. The incident resulted in the deaths of SGC members.
A second plan was devised to transmit HU-2340/Malacarium through the wormhole. The plan did not appear to succeed but the star nevertheless recovered. It is unclear whether the Asgard played a part in restoring the sun but the people believe Freyr saved them.
