Jumper is a 2008 film loosely based on the Steven Gould novel Jumper. The film is directed by Doug Liman and stars Hayden Christensen and Samuel Jackson.

Premise

A young man, Davey, discovers an innate ability to teleport himself anywhere on the planet. He also discovers that others before him have developed this talent and a war has been underway for centuries, fought between those with the skill and those determined to wipe them out.

Synopsis

Davey discovers his talent after falling through the ice while in high school. He uses his ability to escape his life and moves to New York where he robs a bank. These actions bring his existence to the attention of a mysterious man, Rolland (Samuel L. Jackson) who tries to kill him and is able to stop him from jumping with a taser-like device.

Davey returns home and meets up with old friend Millie (Rachel Bilson). Claiming he's made his fortune in banking he invites her to go to Rome with him. Though suspicious of his claim the two travel by plain to Rome where he attempts to impress her by breaking into the Coliseum. While there, he runs into another jumper, Grifin (Jaime Bell) who warns him about the powerful group Paladin who have a religious obligation to murder people like them. Griffin warns him that his relationship with Millie will get her killed. Rolland's men track him to the Coliseum and he only narrowly escapes only to be arrested moments later.

With the aid of his mother who disappeared when he was five, Davey escapes police custody in Rome, after being arrested for questioning in a murder at the Coliseum. He sends Millie home only to realize his own actions will lead to her death, as is obvious when he comes across his father's body in his old house. He tries to gain Griffin's help and several jumps later, the two battle it out with Rolland and his strange abilities are revealed to Millie. The battle destroys her apartment and despite Rolland's attempts to kill him, he spares his life, leaving him on alonely mesa in the Grand Canyon.

Davey later tracks down his mother who he discovers is a member of Palladin.
