Julianna Luisa Margulies, ( born June 8, 1966 in Spring Valley, New York, is an Emmy Award-winning American actress. She got an early start on stage as a ballet dancer.
Margulies won one Emmy and was nominated for five others as the resilient yet vulnerable nurse Carol Hathaway on the genre-transforming hospital program ER. She has been nominated for the Golden Globe Award six times for her work on ER and other programs.
In 2006, she co-starred in the camp disaster movie Snakes on a Plane, and guest starred on HBO's acclaimed crime series The Sopranos. Other genre-related appearances include Ghost Ship in 2002, and the role of Morgaine in the miniseries The Mists of Avalon in 2001.
In the SCI FI Channel's miniseries The Lost Room (December 2006), Margulies plays Jennifer, a woman of uncertain motives who encounters Det. Joe Miller (Peter Krause) as he searches for his daughter.
