Dame Judi Dench (b. December 9, 1934) is an Academy Award-winning British actress born in York, North Yorkshire, England. Dench is a much acclaimed for her work in film and television and has been nominated six times for an Oscar and has won ten BAFTA awards for projects which include A Fine Romance, A Room with a View, Shakespeare in Love, and Iris. Dench is well known for her appearances in literary classics brought to the screen such as A Midsummer Night's Dream, MacBeth, The Importance of Being Earnest, Hamlet, Pride and Prejudice, Henry V, and The Comedy of Errors. She has also appeared in more internationally popular films, such as the Bond film series, Chocolat, The Chronicles of Riddick and The Shipping News.
