Jude Law

David Jude Law (b. December 29, 1972, London, England) is an Academy Award-nominated English actor known for his wide range of performances. Known mainly for his performances in non-genre dramatic films, Law may be well-remembered by genre fans for his appearance in the 1997 film Gattaca alongside Ethan Hawke.

Law is the second child of teachers Peter and Maggie Law. He has an elder sister, Natasha.He grew up in Blackheath. Both parents enjoy amateur theatre, and passed on their love of drama to their son. After seeing him perform in a school play at six, they nurtured his talent by taking him regularly to the theatre. By his teens Law was certain of his future profession an enrolled in the National Youth Music Thatre,

He made his television debut in musical production of Beatrix Potter's The Tailor Of Gloucester. He dropped out of school at 17 to pursue acting full time. He dedicated himself to theatre and toured Italy in a production of Pygmalion before returning to London to appear in The Fastest Clock in the Universe.

In 1992, Law launched his movie career with the film Shopping about a group of thrill seeking teenagers. The film also starred Jonathan Pryce but was no great success. After appearing in the WWII drama Bent and playing Oscar Wilde in Wilde to critical praise, Law gained the attention of international audiences in Gattaca and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

In 1999 Law appeared alongside Jennifer Jason Leigh and Willem Dafoe in the David Cronenberg thriller, EXistenZ. He also starred in The Talented Mr. Ripley with Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Damon and won raves for his performance as well as a Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. Law's career took off and he appeared in back to back films, Enemy at the Gates, Artificial Intelligence: AI in which he played a sex robot, Road to Perdition with Tom Hanks, Cold Mountain which earned him a second Oscar nomination, I Heart Huckabees, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow with Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, Alfie, The Aviator and a voice role in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events .

After a short break in 2005 in which he had no films released, Law returned to the big screen in All the King's Men. He also appeared alongside Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet in the holiday romance, The Holiday. In 2009, Law will appear in Reposession Mambo.
