Joss Whedon

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Joss Whedon (b.June 23, 1964, New York City, NY) is a man of many hats. Screenwriter. Director. Producer. Composer.

Best known for his creation of the cult television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer (based on his poorly received movie of the same name), Whedon is also the creator of Buffy spin-off Angel, and the sci fi western Firefly.

Buffy ran for seven seasons before coming to its conclusion. Five of those seasons were spent on The WB Network, and two on UPN. Angel, a spin-off focusing on the adventures of Buffy’s vampire-ex-boyfriend-turned-L.A.-detective, ran for five seasons on The WB before being staked.

Whedon's next show, Firefly, was cancelled by Fox Television after only eleven episodes (out of fourteen originally filmed) had aired, but the series found new life in 2005 when Whedon released a feature film based on it. The movie was called Serenity after the vessel on which the rag-tag group of space adventurers traveled. Serenity was not a huge financial success in the theater, and the revenue generated by the release of the movie and series on DVD is the subject of fan speculation.

Whedon is also an accomplished screenwriter, best known for his work on Alien: Resurrection, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Titan A. E., and Toy Story. His pre-Buffy television writing credits also include both Roseanne and Parenthood.

His work in comics can be seen in both The Astonishing X-Men and the futuristic Buffy tie-in, Fray. Fray picks up the story of a future Slayer years after Buffy concludes, interweaving many of the elements that were prominent during the last season of the television show.

His credits as a composer include songs for the musical Buffy episode entitled "Once More with Feeling," as well as two additional songs for flashbacks to that episode. He also composed the theme song for Firefly.

Whedon worked on bringing Wonder Woman to the big screen and developed a script for the film. However, the studio and Silver Pictures envisioned a different film than Whedon wished to make and he is no longer working on the film.
