John Saul (b. February 25, 1942, Pasadena, California) is a best selling American author known for his horror and suspense thrillers. Saul grew up in Whittier, California and attended Whittier High School. He graduated in 1959 and moved on to college. He attended several colleges in Montana, Ohio and California, constantly switching majors. He ultimately left college without getting his degree and turned to writing.
Saul worked a variety of jobs while working on his first novel. Several unpublished manuscripts later he finally landed an agent in New York, but still no quick success. In 1976, Dell asked Saul to write a psychological thriller. Impressed by the manuscript, Suffer the Children, the publisher promoted it strongly. Their confidence paid off and the novel made the best seller list. Saul continued to have regular success over the years. All his novels have made best seller lists and are widely published.
Saul has also delved into playwriting and has had several one-act plays produced. He currently resides in the Pacific northwest.
