John David Gynn Logan (b. September 24, 1961, Chicago, Illinois) is an American playwright, screenwriter and producer. Logan worked as a Chicago playwright for a decade before turning his attention to film. Logan has written screenplays for several notable films include the Golden Globe winning RKO 281, Oscar-winning Gladiator starring Russell Crowe, The Last Samurai featuring Tom Cruise and the Academy Award winner The Aviator. In 2007, he wrote and produced the screenplay Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street which stars Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. His genre contributions also include the 2002 film based on the H. G. Wells story, The Time Machine , Star Trek: Nemesis, Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, Bats and Tornado!.
