John Barrymore (John Blythe) (February 15, 1882 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – May 29, 1942) Acclaimed American stage and screen actor, the brother of Ethel and Lionel Barrymore (1878-1954). A popular matinée idol renowned for his “great profile”, he delighted in playing bizarre characters, including the eponymous Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in the 1920 version. Unfortunately, his career ultimately floundered amongst alcoholism and self-parody in films such as The Invisible Woman (1941).
