John Alvin

John Alvin (b. November 24, 1948February 6, 2008) is an American illustrator and designer best known for his work creating movie poster art. Alvin won a 1983 Saturn Award for his work on the E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial poster. Among Alvin's best known work were posters for Blade Runner, The Goonies, and Brian De Palma's Phantom of the Paradise. Alvin also created artwork for special edition and anniversary releases of Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.

Alvin's career began in 1974 when he created the poster art work for Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles. His work on the film led to more opportunities on the Mel Brooks film Young Frankenstein and later Blake Edward’s Victor/Victoria.
