Joseph "Joe" Shuster (b. July 10, 1914 – July 30, 1992) is a Canadian-born American comic book artist who, along with Jerry Siegel created the DC Comics superhero, Superman.
Shuster was born in Toronto, Ontario, to Julius Shuster, a Dutch immigrant from Rotterdam, and Ida, originally from Kiev, Ukraine. The family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, when Shuster was ten years old. He attended Glenville High School where he met Jerry Siegel, and the two began publishing a science fiction fanzine. The two broke into the world of comics together at National Allied Publications, later DC Comics.
The Joe Shuster Awards honor the top talents in the Canadian comic book industry. This award was launched in 2005 and is administered by the Canadian Comic Book Creator Awards Association.
