Joe Haldeman (b. June 9, 1943, Oklahoma) is an American author and anthology editor, best known for his work in military science fiction.
Born in Oklahoma, Haldeman grew up in Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. He earned his BS in astronomy at the University of Maryland. He began a graduate degree but left it behind to focus on his writing.
Haldeman is a veteran of the Vietnam war, during which he served as a combat engineer with the 4th Division.
