Joe Dante (b. November 28, 1946, Morristown, New Jersey) is an American director who has worked on several genre films and series. Dante grew up in Parsippany, New Jersey and, after high school, studied at the Philadelphia College of Art. Following college, he worked as a film critic and later editor for the Film Buletin newspaper. He later worked as a film editor for Roger Corman's New World Productions before making his feature film debut as a director with the 1976 comedy Hollywood Boulevard. Dante directed his first true genre film The Howling in 1981. He'd previously directed the creature-feature, Piranha in 1978. Other notable genre projects include Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983), Gremlins (1984), Explorers (1985), Innerspace (1987), Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990), The Warlord: Battle for the Galaxy (1998), Small Soldiers (1998), Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003), and Trapped Ashes (2006). His television contributions include episodes of The Twilight Zone, Amazing Stories, Eerie, Indiana, Night Visions and Masters of Horror.
