Jessica Alba (Jessica Marie Alba) (April 28, 1981–) is an American actor, born in Pomona, California. She is noted for her exotic beauty, a result of her Mexican, French, and Danish ancestry. A successful child actress, her breakout adult TV role is considered to be the James Cameron action series Dark Angel. Since then, she has had lead roles in Fantastic Four and Sin City.
Career
Jessica Alba has wanted to be an actress since she was five-years-old. At age twelve, she took her first acting class, and an acting agent signed her in just nine months. Alba's first appearance was Gail in the movie Camp Nowhere. She made her TV debut in the Nickelodeon comedy, The Secret World of Alex Mack. Her first big role was Maya from the 1995 TV series Flipper. She has had many small roles in other TV series and films, such as Chicago Hope, Beverly Hills, 90210, and P.U.N.K.S..
Alba earned recognition through her leading role in Idle Hands (1999) opposite Devon Sawa, but it was not until Dark Angel (2000) when she became a breakout star. Alba played Max Guevara/X5-452, a transgenic super-soldier trying to live in a broken world. Since then, she has starred in Honey as an aspiring dancer, Nancy Callahan in Sin City (2005), and as Sue Storm in Marvel Comics' movie adaptation of Fantastic Four (2005). She reprises her role as Sue Storm in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) and followed up with Good Luck Chuck, Bill, Awake, The Eye and Sin City 2.
Awards
Alba was nominated for a Golden Globe for her work on Dark Angel and won a Saturn Award for her work on the series. She was nominated again for a Saturn award in 2006 for her work on Sin City. She also won an Alma award for breakthrough actress and was nominated three times for her work on Dark Angel and Sin City.
