Jerry O'Connell (b. February 17, 1974 in New York City, New York) is an American actor well known to scifi fans in the role of Quinn Mallory on the TV Series Sliders. He has also appeared in Joe's Apartment as the title character, Joe, and Mission to Mars as Phil Ohlmyer. He has also voiced both Captain Marvel and Nightwing.
O'Connell enrolled in acting classes at six and landed his first professional roles in commercials when he was ten. In 1986, he made his film debut in the coming of age classic Stand by Me, as chubby Vern Tessio. He followed up with his genre debut in the series My Secret Identity playing a superpowered teenager. In his teen years he attended Manhattan's Professional Children's School. After high school he attended New York University where he earned his B.A. in Film and Television. He continued to act while attending school, appearing alongside Jason Priestly in the 1993 comedy, Calendar Girl.
In 1995, O'Connell took on the role that would endear him to genre fans, starring as a college-aged genius, Quinn Mallory in the series Sliders. The series was canceled by Fox but picked up by the Sci Fi Channel. The series suffered in the ratings and O'Connell left before the series concluded. In 1996, while still working on Sliders, O'Connell took on the MTV movie Joe's Apartment in which his costars consisted of a cast of singing cockroaches.
O'Connell appeared in only occasional genre projects after Sliders. In 1996, he appeared in Jerry Maguire alongside Tom Cruise and his followup roles included Scream 2, and an uncredited role in Jennifer Love Hewitt's movie Can't Hardly Wait. He returned to science fiction briefly in the Mars exploration movie Mission to Mars. After several largely forgettable roles, he landed a regular role on the crime drama series Crossing Jordan.
In 2007, O'Connell landed his own sitcom, Carpoolers. The series wasn't a hit and was canceled after it's initial episode order. In 2008, he returned to movies, starring alongside Heather Graham in the comedy Baby on Board. He also filmed the miniseries The Inn, to debut in 2009.
On July 14, 2007, O'Connell married actress Rebecca Romijn.
