Jeri Lynn Ryan (b. February 22, 1968) is an American actress born Jerri Lynn Zimmerman in Munich, Germany to Jeri and Sharon Zimmerman. She is well known in the role of Seven of Nine on the series Star Trek: Voyager. A military brat, Ryan grew up on military bases around the world including Kansas, Hawaii, and Georgia. Her family eventually settled in Paduch, Kentucky. Ryan graduated from Lone Oak High School in 1986 and went on to attend Northwestern University. While in college, she entered several beauty pageants and won the title of Miss Northwestern. She went on to enter the Miss America pageant where she won the preliminary swimsuit event. Ryan graduated with a BS in theater.
Career
Following college, Ryan pursued an acting career in Los Angeles. She made her debut in an episode of Who's the Boss. Other early roles include The Flash, Nurses, Flash III: Deadly Nightshade, Matlock, and Time Trax. In 1997, Ryan landed a role on the short-lived NBC series Dark Skies playing government agent Juliet Stewart. She followed up with guest appearances on the UPN series The Sentinel and her most notable role as the Borg character Seven of Nine on Star Trek: Voyager. Her addition to the series' cast, though criticized by many fans, also led to higher ratings.
Following Voyager, Ryan joined the cast of the Fox series Boston Public. The show was canceled in 2004 and Ryan has since appeared on The O.C., Boston Legal and Shark. Her film appearances also include Down with Love with Ewan McGregor, Sudbury, and Dracula 2000.
Personal Life
Jeri Ryan met husband Jack Ryan in 1990 at a charity event. They married in 1991 and had a son, Alex, in 1994. They divorced in 1999. Their divorce proceedings and custody files for son Alex were made public record following Jack Ryan's decision to run for the U.S. Senate. The documents revealed that Jeri had accused Jack of requesting that she perform public sex acts in adult clubs. The revelation proved devastating for Jack Ryan's campaign and he was forced to withdraw from the senate race.
Jeri Ryan is also skilled in food preparation. In 2005, she partnered with Chef Christophe Emé and opened a restaurant in Los Angeles, Ortolan. Ryan and Emé are currently engaged.
