Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa is an American actor of Hawaiian and Caucasian descent. He is best known in the role of Ronon Dex on the series Stargate Atlantis. He was born on August 1, 1979 in Honolulu, Hawaii and shortly after moved to Norwalk, Iowa with his mother. Momoa returned to Hawaii for college and to explore his Hawaiian ancestry. While there, he was discovered by designers as a fashion model. He is also an avid athlete enjoying ice climbing, mountain biking and snowboarding.
His first significant role was on the series Baywatch as Jason Ioane. He has also guest starred on North Shore and played a small role in Johnson Family Vacation. In 2005, he joined the cast of Stargate Atlantis as the intimidating warrior, Ronon Dex.
Personal Life
Momoa welcomed daughter Lola Iolani Momoa on July 23, 2007. Lola is the third daughter for actress Lisa Bonet and Momoa's first child.
Though easily identified by his dreadlocks, Momoa actually cut his hair prior to Atlantis fifth season. For the beginning of the fifth season he had his old locks sewn in to maintain his look. It was later replaced by a wig due to discomfort.
