Japan (Nihon) is a country in Southeast Asia comprised of over 300 islands. The capital and largest city is Tokyo which is also the largest metropolitan area in the world. Japan is home to a rich and unique culture that has greatly influenced Asia and the western world. Notable Japanese individuals include Japanese anime directors Hayao Miyazaki and Katsuhiro Ôtomo, manga artists Naoko Takeuchi and Yukito Kishiro and filmmaker Ishirô Honda. Americans of Japanese heritage include George Takei, Pat Morita, and Masi Oka.

Japanese means of or relating to Japan and, in the context of SCIFIpedia, refers mainly to such things as Kaiju Eiga and anime and manga.
