James Ford better known as Sawyer is a fictional character on the ABC series Lost played by Josh Holloway. Sawyer is a survivor of Oceanic flight 815 who generally tries to portray himself as the bad guy.

Before the crash

Originally from Jasper, Alabama, James was born in 1969. He had a traumatic childhood sparked by a con artist known as Sawyer, who swindled his parents out of their life savings. He then witnessed his father murder his mother and then kill himself. He dropped out of school in the ninth grade and became a con artist at 19.
