Lieutenant Commander Jadzia Dax is a fictional character on the series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine played by Terry Farrell. Jadzia is a joined Trill the eighth host of the Dax Symbiont. Jadzia was born on the Trill homeworld and joined with Dax in 2367 following the death of its previous host, Curzon. Jadzia is a Starfleet officer.

Jadzia Dax might seem just like any bright young woman, but don't let that fool you. Through her Dax symbiont, she has the experiences of eight lifetimes. On Trill, the symbiont race joins with select Trill and lives symbionically with them, bringing their experience and personalities of all previous hosts with them. As such, Jadzia has the experiences of being different sexes, different ages, and schooled in many different disciplines. She is incredibly wise and knowlegable, and sees things differently than us regular humanoids. She is very comfortable with different races, moving with ease among Ferengi and Klingon society as she does among the Federation's Starfleet officers. Kira Nerys, with a much more provincial upbringing, used to marvel at Jadzia's tendency to be attracted to, and even dating, other races. Eventually, Jadzia would even marry a Klingon, despite the fact that both Quark and Julian Bashir were clearly both in love with her.

Jadzia was a Science Officer, in the tradition of Spock on the original Star Trek, was always there to help Commander (later Captain) Benjamin Sisko. In truth, Dax's previous host, Curzon Dax, was a mentor and friend to Sisko. When Sisko lnew Curzon, he was an experienced older man, an Ambassador in the Federation's employ. Jadzia carries with her all of Curzon's experiences and memories, so her friendship with Sisko continues with this host. Sisko was surprised to find his old friend in the body of a young woman, but acknowleges their long relationship by calling her "old man" as he used to affectionately call Curzon in the Symbiont's previous life.

Jadzia's tragic death would be a turning point in the series. Dax was to return, however, with a new host, in the form of Ezri Dax in the series final months.
